The Universal Declaration of Human Rights are so very important to maintain standards of equality and standards. In this novel some of those rights have been violated and deprived the citizens. This book possesses firemen that don't actually put out house fires but they start fires instead. They use kerosene and ignite the books on fire. A quote from the book states, ""Do you ever read any of the books you burn?" He (guy Montag) Laughed. "That's against the law!"" (Bradbury 8). People that owned the books were arrested and the books were burned to ash in the house! Guy Montag thoughts express, " The police went first and adhesive-taped the victim's mouth and bandaged him off into their glittering beetle cars, so when you arrived you found an empty house. You weren't hurting anyone, you were hurting only things! ... " You were simply cleaning up. Janitor work, essentially." (Bradbury 36) This became the normal in this novel and the citizens had no other choice, they couldn't self educate themselves so "The public stopped reading of it's own accord." (Bradbury 87)
